The World Educational Cultural Aid (WECA) is conducting the ‘Samulnori Tata’ program to help children and adolescents learn about Korea’s traditional culture and develop emotional stability and rich artistic sensibilities. 

This program was run lively according to each institution's schedule, with a total of 144 children participating from 10 institutions, including children's centers, youth culture houses, and elementary schools in each region of Gyeonggi-do.

Systematic traditional music education tailored to age and level

This Samulnori class was conducted as a customized education by dividing the children into beginner, intermediate, and project teams, taking into account the children's age and skill level.

⊙ Beginner course (focused on elementary school students):We had time to learn the basic structure of traditional instruments and intuitively learn how to express strong and weak sounds, which are the core of Korean traditional music, through relatively easy melodies.

⊙Intermediate course (combined for elementary/middle/high school students):We learned in earnest the ‘Utdari Garak Samulnori’, which contains our unique excitement. 

By practicing a mixture of 2-minute and 3-minute beats, which are highly difficult, focusing on Gyeonggi-do and Chungcheong-do melodies, they perfectly mastered the difficult rhythm.

⊙project team:They worked together more deeply and trained intensively on Jajinmori, a representative melody of Samulnori, to present a high-quality ensemble.

Even children who were unfamiliar with the sound of traditional Korean instruments at first became immersed in the harmony created by kkwaenggwari, janggu, drum, and gong as classes continued. 

Through the process of listening to each other's breathing and matching the beat, the children gained valuable experience developing cooperation and relieving daily stress in a healthy way.
