The World Educational Cultural Aid is conducting a reading education program so that children from North Korean defector families can experience the joy of learning through reading and experiences. In this class, we read 『When do you eat pancakes?』 together, talked about the meaning of holidays and traditional foods, and had time to make three-color skewered pancakes ourselves. The children recalled the pancakes they had tried, talked about the taste and texture of the ingredients, and showed confidence as they completed the pancake-making process on their own. I also played ssireum with my friends, felt the holiday culture firsthand, and had a time filled with laughter.
Chairman Bang Jeong-hwan supported the children’s growth, saying, “The greatest power of education is that children learn warm memories and culture through stories in books and become positive about their own lives.”
The World Educational Cultural Aid will continue to work with North Korean defector children to help them develop their self-esteem and dreams through books and experiences. We ask for your continued interest and love from our sponsors!
