The World Educational Cultural Aid (WECA) successfully concluded the ‘6th Academic Conference’ held at Soongsil University together with the Soongsil Institute for Peace and Unification. This event was a meaningful time to discuss and share research and action plans for children and adolescents with immigrant backgrounds and the socially disadvantaged.
At the conference, practical difficulties experienced by Korean teenagers and overseas adoptees, such as issues of identity, education, finding family, and repatriation, were addressed and solutions for these problems were sought together. This process of meeting voices from the field and academic insights made me realize again why we must continue to care for and speak out for these children and young people.
Through this conference, we were able to confirm once again that change for a better world is possible when the field and academics are connected. We will continue to cooperate with various organizations and create ways to provide practical help to children's lives.
