“Oh my gosh, the fire went out, and there was nothing left…”
In the spring of 2025, a large forest fire occurred in the Gyeongsang-do region, instantly taking away the homes of countless people. The World Educational Cultural Aid visited the damaged site in person, witnessed the terrible situation, and began providing emergency support to the victims.
The village that was swept away by the fire was literally reduced to ashes. Most of the buildings in the village burned down and collapsed, and residents who lost their homes were temporarily staying in nearby community centers and churches. It is the time to prepare for farming, but even farming equipment has been burned, making farming difficult.
An elderly man I met at the scene was standing in front of his burned house, devastated. This elderly person complained, “I am staying at church with my grandchildren,” and “I have nothing left to wear or eat.” Residents staying at the shelter looked helpless, having lost everything. What's even more unfortunate is that the roof of the only local children's center in the village was burned down. In a dangerous situation where the remaining tile pieces were blown away by the wind, even the children's learning place suffered great damage.
The World Educational Cultural Aid has begun a fundraising campaign to help residents affected by forest fires. All of your precious donations will be used to provide daily necessities and rebuild the lives of residents affected by forest fires.
My heart aches even more when I see the sponsors in person. Please join us to help residents in areas affected by forest fires get back on their feet!
