The children, nannies, and collaborators who came from Jakarta, Bandung, and Medan in Indonesia, and Sibu and Sarawak in Malaysia, ignited their passion during the three-day, two-night trip. The seminar started with an orientation, followed by hygiene education (teeth brushing education, hand washing education), child abuse prevention and sex education, mini Olympics, and field experience learning. We introduce you to those moments that were full of love and passion.
▶ First meeting: When we first met, we were able to recognize each other’s closeness at a glance^^
▶ Orientation: A meeting between friends from a group home that raises children who cannot live in normal homes due to poverty or natural disasters. After a moment of awkwardness, the seminar venue began to be filled with big smiles.
▶ Ice Breaking Time: We shared our feelings with each other through simple movements and songs.
▶ Hygiene education: Some children do not know how to brush their teeth. And there are children who know how to brush their teeth but don't. Due to the advent of Western civilization that has penetrated deep into impoverished areas, children's teeth are in very poor condition. To protect the dental health of our precious children by brushing their teeth properly, we provided them with toothbrushing education and gave them toothbrushes and toothpaste as gifts.
▶ Hygiene education: Along with hand washing education, children had time to make their own soap. The soap that children make is a natural soap containing special ingredients that can prevent malaria mosquitoes, and is effective in avoiding the risk of malaria and other diseases.
▶ Wisop Campaign “Podeuk Podeuk”: The World Educational Cultural Aid is conducting a campaign to educate children in poor areas about basic health and hygiene. This is because children in poor areas with extremely poor hygiene are exposed to various dangerous diseases. Countless children are dying from infections such as malaria, diarrhea, typhoid, pneumonia, and cholera. It's even more heartbreaking because most diseases that lead to death are preventable just by frequently washing your hands with soap.
▶ Child abuse prevention and sex education: It is a difficult story, but we shared a story that we must tell our children. It's a difficult story, but telling the story in a way that is most familiar to children made it a very enjoyable time.
▶ Mini Olympics: Children who are participating in the Mini Olympics (sports day) for the first time in their lives. Even though the daytime temperature was close to 36 degrees, the children participated in the Mini Olympics in a lively manner.
▶ Mini Olympics: Board flipping, group jumping rope, ball rolling, ball transfer, kangaroo relay
▶ Through this seminar, we once again confirmed that it is important to raise children with more hugs, trust, and attention than material wealth.
▶ Hand stamping: The children had fun stamping banners with their favorite colors on their palms. The children's pure hearts were buried in their palms, and the children were happy to see the phrase on the banner.
▶ Talent Show: Children from group homes with diverse cultures even though they are from the same country. It was time to discover the talents of those children. Through the talent show, we were able to see the passion and love in the children's hearts.
▶ Christmas gift delivery: Santa Claus traveled a long way to Jakarta, Indonesia for the children who attended the group home seminar. We gave the children diaries where they could write down their dreams and hopes for the new year of 2015.
▶ The children were so shy that they could not make eye contact on the first day. However, as the seminar progressed, the sense of kinship developed, and on the last day, I cried because I felt sad about parting ways. We concluded the 3-day, 2-night seminar with the promise of a day when upright and kind-hearted children, nannies, and collaborators can gather in one place again.
