“Cathedral Elementary School, a flower of sharing that blooms in a small rural school”

- Seongdang Elementary School donates all proceeds from the Sharing Bazaar to WECA, the World Educational Cultural Aid -

Seongdang Elementary School held the ‘2015 Happiness Sharing Market’ sharing bazaar on the 23rd and donated all proceeds to WECA, an NGO under the Ministry of Education.

Seongdang Elementary School (Dangjin-eup, Dangjin-si, Chungcheongnam-do) is a school with about 120 students. It is a happy school where each student discovers their talents and pursues their dreams.

On a beautiful campus surrounded by old pine trees, a flea market was opened to foster thrifty lifestyle habits of knowing the value of things and using them sparingly, and a food market where students could use coupons issued for good behavior.

Above all, this sharing bazaar was planned by students themselves, gathered their ideas, and formed about 20 flea markets selling school supplies, shoes, toys, etc., making it a more vibrant place for sharing than ever before.

Additionally, a sharing participation booth was set up where students delivered school supplies such as pencils in pencil pouches they made themselves to children in impoverished areas who were unable to study because they did not have pencils.

The Sharing Participation Booth was created with the participation of NGOs and WECA, the World Educational Cultural Aid, to help students develop a broad understanding of their neighbors from all walks of life around the world and a consensus on the practice of sharing.

Principal Lee Neung-se of Seongdang Elementary School said, “Through this ‘2015 Happiness Sharing Market,’ I hope that students will increase their sense of community and become people who know how to help their neighbors in need.” He added, “I am happy to convey warm hearts to children in impoverished areas around the world through WECA, the World Educational Cultural Aid.”

The proceeds of 502,910 won from the ‘2015 Happiness Sharing Market’, 200 school supplies donated by students, and 56 school bags donated by mothers of the student council will be delivered to WECA, the World Educational Cultural Aid, and used in an education campaign to help children in impoverished areas such as Africa and Asia attend school.
