[Overseas News] Lampang, Thailand, Harmony in December

Overseas 2022. 03. 12 17:58

There is music even in the fluttering of the reeds.
There is music even in the flow of a stream
If people had ears they could hear music in everything
-by. G. Byron
The chattering sound of people sitting on the street corner of a restaurant. The sound of Seong Tae-woo, a tuk-tuk, passing by carrying guests. The sound of leaves rustling in the wind. The sound of the river flowing leisurely. Sounds adults can never hear. How many sounds are there that only children can hear? All sounds can become music WECA, the World Educational Cultural Aid, decides to create that music with children.

Lampang Bandun Tam School in Thailand is an elementary school with a total of 70 students. There are children here who receive educational support from WECA, the World Educational Cultural Aid. For the first year, we focused on providing supplies such as school supplies. The school has wanted to create an ensemble for a long time. Because it is a school with very poor financial conditions, there is no budget for purchasing musical instruments or hiring teachers. After hearing that they were feeling sad, we first targeted the children supported by WECA. We thought it would be a good idea to create an ensemble, so the ensemble came together.

“The Lampang region is one of the poorest regions in Thailand.
Children do not have opportunities to play musical instruments,
All other schools that heard about Bandun Tam School's ensemble club were envious.
“The ensemble experience is a rare opportunity.”

During interview with collaborator

Twice a week after school, 30 children learning music gather together. I am practicing music with my teacher. When children first pick up a musical instrument, playing is not as easy as expected. The collaborative process of working together with friends was difficult. But to achieve one harmony. Sharing each other's senses and breathing. Because it is such a wonderful thing, we wait and listen to each other. Little by little, we are completing a piece of music. This is really cool!!!

“Learning to play an instrument is so much fun.
In the future we will practice even harder.
So I will play beautiful music to my parents.”
Music has the power to comfort children's poor hearts and lift them up. To help children unfold their dream stories with music. WECA, the World Educational Cultural Aid, is cheering for you!!!
