[Overseas] WECA African Albino Support Project News

Overseas 2023. 07. 19 09:57

This is news about the WECA African Albino Support Project.

Albino, also called albinism, is a congenital disease that occurs when the body's melanocytes fail to synthesize melanin. The incidence of albinism in black people is 1 in 10,000, and in several African countries, including Tanzania, the incidence is 1 in 1,400, which is overwhelmingly higher than among other races. In addition, Africa is a very dangerous environment for albinos, who do not have melanin pigment, because there are many areas exposed to a lot of ultraviolet rays.

But what threatens them more than anything else is terrible superstition. In some African countries, there is a superstition that an albino body brings good luck, and terrible incidents occur every year. Especially during election season, it is said that some politicians buy albino bodies at high prices to get elected, and hide out without being able to leave the house.

The World Educational Cultural Aid has rolled up its sleeves for the suffering albinos in Africa. For those who live with the risk of skin disease throughout their lives, we plan to provide necessary items such as sunscreen, sun hats, and sunglasses, as well as education to overcome discrimination and poverty. We will strive to improve social awareness throughout Africa through quality education.

thank you Thanks to our sponsors who are always with the World Educational Cultural Aid, we are able to support children who are suffering. We ask for your continued interest.
