Special meeting between Suncheon National University overseas voluntee…

Domestic 2024. 08. 26 00:00

We bring you news of the first overseas volunteer group since the coronavirus outbreak. Suncheon National University's summer overseas volunteer group visited Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and performed various volunteer activities. The volunteer group interacted with local children through educational services, hard work (painting and mural painting), and cultural exchanges.

First, we arrived at School 118 in Mongolia and conducted educational volunteer work on the topics of science, arts and physical education (Korean culture), hygiene, and Korean language education. In the science class, we had time to understand the principles of lenses and make a small telescope, and in the arts and physical education class, we had the opportunity to understand traditional Korean games and make appropriate jegi and tuho. In hygiene education, we learned how to wash our hands and had an activity where the children made their own soap. In Korean language education, we spent time learning basic words and greetings.

Additionally, through a mini sports day, we had a chance to physically interact with Mongolian children, build intimacy, and have a time of cultural exchange. Mongolian children prepared traditional dances, played musical instruments, and performed K-pop dances, and the Suncheon National University volunteer group also performed K-pop performances and Taekwondo dance. In particular, the Mongolian children responded enthusiastically to the tumbling, kicking, and breaking demonstrations during the Taekwondo dance performance.

We worked on the mural through hard work. The volunteer group first carried out the basic work for the mural and then painted colorful pictures on the white-painted wall. Everyone cheered and shared joy when the mural, painted with great care by the volunteer group under the hot sun, was completed. The mural, completed through everyone's efforts, was a picture of a large whale and beautiful underwater friends.

While doing volunteer work with the volunteer group members, I was deeply moved by the sight of them doing their best for the children of Mongolia. This overseas volunteer service was a special time that provided precious memories and valuable experiences to both the volunteers and the Mongolian children.
