[Overseas] Ethiopian WECA women’s dormitory news

Overseas 2025. 11. 11 17:22

The World Educational Cultural Aid operates women's dormitories in government offices and regions to guarantee the right to education for female students in rural areas of Ethiopia. Currently, 60 female 10th grade high school students are living in the dormitory and receiving awareness-raising education and computer job training.

In rural Ethiopia, it is still difficult for female students to continue their education due to early marriage and forced housework. Accordingly, WECA selects diligent and excellent female students and provides them with lodging and a learning environment so that they can continue their studies. Children from rural villages without electricity smiled and said, “I am happy because here I have time to do my homework and study under the lights.”

The dormitory was equipped with bunk beds for four people, the bathroom, which had poor hygiene, was renovated, and the entire dormitory was refurbished. After school, computer job training and basic Korean language classes are provided with the help of volunteer teachers. Children now have bigger dreams, saying, “I want to go to university,” and “I want to become an office worker who is good at using computers.” Chairman Bang Jeong-hwan expressed his gratitude, saying, "When one female student continues her path of learning, her family and village change together. Your support is the power to change the future of children."

The World Educational Cultural Aid will continue to work with Ethiopian female students so that they can learn and grow in a safe environment.
