The World Educational Cultural Aid continues to support reading education for children of North Korean defectors together with Green Head Library, a library for North Korean defectors. This reading education was conducted with the purpose of helping children understand their lives, express their thoughts, and communicate with each other through books.
Through the ‘Exploring our neighborhood and making a map’ activity, the children learned about the role of nearby stores and government offices, talked about their locations together, and had time to understand the space in their daily lives. In another class, we learned about various types of sleep under the theme of ‘function of sleep’ and had the experience of sharing thoughts and collaborating through the activity of decorating the blanket we wanted to cover ourselves with. Children naturally felt the joy of learning through classes that went beyond reading books and combined play and experience.
Chairman Bang Jeong-hwan said, “Reading education for children goes beyond reading, but is a process of understanding their own lives and developing the power to connect with the world. I hope that this time at Green Head Library will build up a little confidence in the children.”
The World Educational Cultural Aid will continue to provide continuous support through reading and education so that children of North Korean defectors can learn and grow in a stable environment.
