[Overseas] Laos WECA Sawannakhet Elim School News

Overseas 2026. 01. 20 09:00

At WECA Sawannakhet Elim School in Laos, basic Korean language classes are being taught for a total of 68 students from 3rd to 5th grade. This class focused on re-establishing Korean consonants and vowels, and was operated as a course to build a stable foundation so that it could naturally lead to learning to read and write words.

Students learned the writing order, pronunciation, and mouth shapes of letters and repeatedly practiced distinguishing between similar sounds and letters. According to each grade level, third graders focused on becoming familiar with basic vowels, fourth graders reduced confusion by comparing shapes and sounds, and fifth graders finished learning vowels and were ready to move on to reading words.

Although the difference in learning speed between students was confirmed through the class, we were able to confirm once again that solidifying the basics at this time is more important than anything else for later learning. The experience of being able to read and write Hangul leads to great confidence in children.

Chairman Bang Jeong-hwan said, “Education begins when children are able to read and write letters on their own. This time of solidifying the basics step by step will be the strength that will preserve children’s learning for a long time.”

The World Educational Cultural Aid will continue to provide educational support tailored to the field so that Laotian children can build a solid foundation of language and develop the joy and confidence of learning.
