A class on the theme of ‘flowers’ was held with children at Otan WECA HOPE Kindergarten. A total of 23 people attended that day, filling the classroom with bright smiles.
The children had time to learn the names of flowers and the fact that flowers make our surroundings beautiful. We learned the English names of various flowers such as sunflowers, roses, jasmine, and tulips, tried new words, and naturally expanded our learning by listening to stories and singing songs.
Lessons did not just stay in the classroom. Children participated in creative activities such as planting flowers, drawing pictures of flowers, and making jasmine flowers. Learning became play through the process of touching the dirt, painting colors, and expressing flowers with small hands. Then, the scope of learning was expanded by adding flower names, color matching, addition and subtraction, and reading activities in English.
At the closing session where we sat in a circle, each person shared their thoughts, saying, “It was fun to plant flowers,” and “I remember the English names of roses.” In the children's eyes, curiosity and confidence in learning were growing together.
The World Educational Cultural Aid will continue to provide continuous educational support through WECA HOPE Kindergarten so that children can learn with nature and solidify basic learning through play.
