On June 4, the World Educational Cultural Aid held a joint academic conference with the Soongsil Institute for Peace and Unification.

This academic conference, the first joint event between the World Educational Cultural Aid and the Soongsil Institute for Peace and Unification in 2024, was held in the Kim Deok-yoon Chapel of the Han Kyung-jik Memorial Hall at Soongsil University under the theme of ‘Identity and Adaptation of Youth with Migrant Backgrounds including North Korean Defectors’.


On this day, about 50 people, including executives and staff members of the World Educational Cultural Aid, including Chairman Jeong-Hwan Bang of the World Educational Cultural Aid, as well as officials from each institution, faculty and students, attended. Presenters included Dr. Si-hyo Lee, a researcher at the Soongsil Institute for Peace and Unification Institute and director of the World Institute for Education and Culture, Professor Jin-tae Hwang of the Department of North Korean Studies at Dongguk University, and Dr. Frank Moehring and Dr. David Jeong, expert researchers at the Soongsil Institute for Peace and Unification, who presented on their research results, which led to lively discussions among the attendees.

Bang Jeong-hwan, Chairman of the World Institute for Education and Culture, expressed his thoughts on this joint academic conference, saying, “Through this event, we will be able to discuss various challenges that were difficult to solve through individual efforts, share success experiences, and seek more effective support.”

The World Educational Cultural Aid is an international educational non-profit organization that develops educational and cultural programs for children in educational blind spots around the world, practices sharing so that those in need can live with hope, and takes the lead in spreading the donation culture. It has been holding a joint academic conference with the Soongsil Institute for Peace and Unification since 2023 and is continuing in-depth discussions on the problems of North Korean defector and immigrant background youth's adaptation to Korean society and the direction of support.
